PP E22: How to Become a Faster Runner and the Plant Based Advantage

There’s 4 things you can start today to add in to your training to become a better and faster runner:

  1. Mindset/mental training -

  2. Quality workout - have 1 quality workout a week - no more or less, just one! Most days you should be running easy but to be a faster runner, you need 1 good quality workout a week. This could be intervals, Tempo runs, Fartleks, or hill repeats. My coach changes it up each week for variety.

  3. Plant based nutrition and the advantage - plant based nutrition gives you an advantage as an athlete because you are eating more phyto chemicals which helps with the flow of oxygen throughout your body and plant based diets are high in carbs. Some foods can help speed more than others like beets, but it’s important to focus on a variety of plant based foods to get the advantage.

  4. Strength training 2x/week: it really doesn’t have to be any more and be careful when you do strength training so you don’t negatively affect your run training, but doing some strength training even if it is using your body weight is beneficial to strength your muscles not only to prevent injury, but make you a faster runner.

Something I also forgot to mention is STRIDES! My coach has me run strides after some of my runs and before quality workouts as a warm up to get the leg speed going!

Part of becoming a better runner is getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. It doesn’t always feel good, but you will mentally feel like you are on top of the world when you become faster and feel fast and fit!!
