Do you struggle with balancing life and eating like an athlete? Are you a mom? Work full time? Go to school? Sometimes, it’s a lot to balance and for many mothers, your kids come first. But as an athlete, your health and fueling as an athlete is important. Also, remember your kids are watching you and it’s important to have a good relationship to food to be a good role model.

You can do this!! Let me give you some tips to help!

As I discuss in this podcast episode, remember these 3 key things: Plan, Prepare, and Practice.

  1. Plan - plan out your day - plan out days the night before if you need to, create a meal plan for you and your family (kids), and have a fueling plan for yourself. It starts with having a plan even if the plan doesn’t go 100%, it’s better to have a plan than none.

  2. Prepare - prepare for things not to go 100% perfect, prepare foods for you and the kids, prepare what you are going to fuel on training runs and race day.

  3. Practice - it may take time to adjust, you may have to compromise, but give it time to figure out what will work to manage it all. Also, practice your own fueling. When you first try sports supplements, you might not like them and it’s okay to try different products or foods.

And finally, remember to take time for you! As a mother especially, running may be your “me” time, but it isn’t enough. Let family or a significant other watch the kids so you can be alone and at peace with yourself. Alone time with yourself and your thoughts is important for your mental health and for you to show us as your best self to take care of others.

You can do this!! It is possible!
